Operation Christmas Child- It is not too late to fill a shoe box with small gifts for a boy or girl who suffer because of war, natural disaster, poverty, illness, or neglect. This organization brings joy and hope, as well as the Good News about God’s Love to children in desperate situations around the world.
It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions outreach, while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas-Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift. Along with the shoe box gifts, these kids are given Gospel booklets in their own language. These gifts are distributed to children in 95 countries.
This yearly event has been very successful here at First Lutheran Church. Fill and entire shoe box with gifts, make a cash donation, or just donate a few items. Pre-wrapped boxes and information are available at the back of our church. Please consider donating this year! Shoe boxes are due back at the church by NOVEMBER 9!

Mouse Musings
"Since it is almost Thanksgiving, I thought it appropriate we explore the hymn that is commonly sung at this time of the year." Sol said.
"Which one are your referring to?" asked Mozey. "And what did you discover about it?"
"Well," answered Sol. "It is, We Gather Together. I found out it is a Christian hymn of Netherland origin written in 1597 by Adrianus Valerius to celebrate the Dutch victory over Spanish forces in the Battle of Turnhout. Although it appeared in a Dutch hymnal printed in 1676 (after the Pilgrims sailed to Massachusetts), the Pilgrims probably knew the hymn or about it from the period when they lived in Holland."
"That's really interesting and something I did not know", said Theo. "What else can you tell us about it?"
"The hymn is customarily performed to a tune known as "Kremser" from Eduard Kremser's 1877 score arrangement who translated the Dutch into Latin. From there, the modern English text was written by Theodore Baker in 1894, a man who wrote and translated many hymns including Low How A Rose E'er Blooming."
"Isn't this hymn generally sung at American churches the day before Thanksgiving?" asked Dorcas.
"Indeed it is" replied Sol. "If you like, I will sing it for you and if you know any of the words, feel free to sing along."
We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!
We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever Praised! O Lord, make us free.
Mozey complimented them all on their harmony and they all wished everyone a Blessed Thanksgiving.
Shalom,
Mozey, Sol, Theo, and Dorcas
